Meet Breena Hayman, MS, CCC-SLP- COM™

 

Breena is a licensed and certified Speech-Language Pathologist in the state of California and a current member of the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association, as well as a Certified Orofacial Myologist from the International Association of Orofacial Myology (https://iaom.org). She has been in practice for over 26 years in San Diego County in a variety of treatment settings including Rady's Children's Hospital, Poway Unified School District and San Diego Unified School District, as well as private practice.

She received Her Master of Science Degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders with honors from The University of Redlands in 1998 and has completed years of training in orofacial myofunctional disorders as related to sleep disordered breathing, habit elimination, orthodontics, and orofacial growth. Breena is a Certified Myo Munchee Provider (www.myomunchee.com) and works with adults, adolescents and pediatrics to correct oral rest posture and function for optimum facial appearance, dental occlusion, speech/articulation, appropriate swallow and breathing patterns. 

 

Breena has clinical expertise in the evaluation and treatment of a variety of childhood speech and language disorders including autism spectrum disorders, articulation and phonological disorders, language delay/disorders, and feeding disorders. Treatment

used in therapy include a variety of oral motor techniques from Talk Tools (https://talktools.com), Prompt Therapy, and The Kaufman Method to treat children with apraxia and other motor speech planning impairments.   

 

Breena specializes in a variety of variety of approaches to treat children with Autism and related disorders including PECS, TEACCH, SCERTS, DIR/Floortime, Social Stories, Visuals, and a variety of sensory based techniques as well as Michelle Garcia Winners Social Thinking Model and Flexible You (www.socialthinking.com)

Breena is trained and utilizes sound therapy such as, Integrated Listening (www.unyte.com), Therapeutic Listening (www.vitalinks.com), and the Forbrain (www.forbrain.com) within treatment sessions.

Breena was one of the first Speech-Language Pathologists in California to attend training for The Hanen Program More Than Words which provides parent- training classes to parents of children with autism spectrum disorders (www.hanen.org).  She was the first Therapist in Southern California to secure funding for The More Than Words Program with San Diego Regional Center in 2004. In addition, Breena was the first Speech-Language Pathologist to implement The Hanen Program Talkability in San Diego, which provides parent- training for verbal children with Social-Pragmatic Disorders.

Breena is committed to providing high quality, evidence-based therapy and implementing successful strategies to meet her patients’ speech, language, and myofunctional goals in a fun, engaging, educational, and effective manner. She also values the importance of involving families and caregivers in the therapeutic process. Breena has owned and operated a private practice for over 20 years. She provides complimentary billing for patients who have PPO’s and is a San Diego Regional Center Vendor.
